How is Wi-Fi changing the way companies conduct remedial training?EditorMark Haslam
One of the most exciting areas in on-board computing and communications is the ability for drivers to view training videos, either for professional development or for mandatory remedial training purposes. It could be because of a violation, or some sort of event that happened and they need to re-accredit according to a specific lesson. 1

Can the driver be anywhere and watch the training videos?EditorMark Haslam
As long as drivers are at a Wi-Fi enabled truck stop, they’ll have the ability to watch the training video and take the corresponding interactive test. 1

What are the benefits to having in-cab training?EditorMark Haslam
By having the training in the cab of the truck, you’re able to shorten the time between the actual violation and the remedial training. By having the training in-cab, you’re eliminating the need for your driver to go back to his home base, saving possibly as much as half a day of productive hours of service drive time. Additionally, because it’s taking place on a multi-media environment, the video can be viewed and the test taken during the drivers rest hours at a truck stop. It goes back to asset utilization when you have video on-board training, drivers can keep driving instead of having to find the time to pull off and re-route themselves back to a terminal. Carriers don’t have terminals on every highway, so what you’re doing is keeping your driver deployed on a load and not pulling them off for half a day to take required training. 1

How hard would it be to set up video training for our drivers?EditorMark Haslam
It’s such an easy thing to do, there are so many training video series out there to use that are specific to trucking. We find ourselves partnering with people/ companies that want to make their own videos. We have large fleets that have their own safety departments that are doing their own training videos according to how they think things should be done. They just load them on the hard drive and the driver can take a lesson at any Wi-Fi enabled truck stop they’re stopped at. |
